imageMay 31, 2013, Kathmandu, NEPAL: WinServer Community organized the first ever monthly community roundup meeting focused for IT and engineering students, IT Professionals working in core Windows Server technologies and other technology enthusiasts in the premises of Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal, New Road, Kathmandu today. The event was planned for the month of May, 2013. Total of 76 people registered online for the event while 33 people could actually made it to the face-to face community roundup meeting.

Pradeep Kandel, one of the members of WinServer Community initiated the meeting with opening remarks on the aims and objectives of launching WinServer Community followed by basic introduction of speakers and participants of the community roundup meeting. With the slogan of ‘growing together’, the community focused on sharing and making the WinServer Community as a platform to share peer-to-peer knowledge sharing in Windows Server infrastructure experience. The session was followed by a technical presentation yet again by Pradeep Kandel on Virtualization technologies with light on Hyper-V. imageHyper-V is a virtualization platform that helps organizations of all sizes realize considerable cost savings and operational efficiencies. With industry leading size and scale, Hyper-V is the platform to run your mission critical workloads. Using Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V, you can take advantage of new hardware technology, while still utilizing the servers you already have. This way you can virtualize today, and be ready for the future.

Deepankar Udaya, another speaker of the monthly roundup delivered an interesting presentation on getting hands on with PowerShell. Windows PowerShimageell® is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language designed especially for system administration. Built on the .NET Framework, Windows PowerShell helps IT professionals and power users control and automate the administration of the Windows operating system and applications that run on Windows.

Deepankar showed few demos on how using PowerShell script could drastically lower the volume of codes that is to be written on legacy Command prompt for the similar purpose. Participants were excited about the power of PowerShell and had lots of queries concerning the topic.

The third session was taken over by Suprasiddha Tamrakar who delivered a presentation on Windows server 2012 Sever Core and its features. Server Core is a minimal server installation option for computers running on the operating system. Server Core provides a low-maintenance server environment with limited functionality. As in Windows Server image2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012 offers Full Server and Server Core installation options. A demo on starting with Windows Server 2012, how it is possible to transition between Full Server and Server Core without reinstalling the operating system was shown in the roundup.

In conclusion, the meeting was successfully run for a period of 2 hours. Started at 4:00PM, the meeting ended at sharp 6:10PM. Special thanks to Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal for providing the venue for the roundup and the refreshment that was served in the mid-session of the meeting.
